When my soul is in anguish and my heart is heavy, I know I can open the bible and my spirit will find some peace. It happens every time. It takes a while but, gradually, I feel better and from somewhere comes the strength to carry on. I chose the following scriptures because they still my soul.

Comforting Scripture 1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet water, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. The Lord is my Shepherd. Psalm 23 NIV

Comforting Scripture 2
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? Romans 8:35 NIV

Comforting Scripture 3
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 NIV

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Make it a habit to spend time with God and find your peace. Praise and thank Him for a good night’s rest and the blessings to come. A new day is a blessing, an opportunity to do better than yesterday.

In the darkness of battling compulsion remind yourself that God listens to every prayer, whether simple or complex. Offer your pains and sufferings to Him. You have not been abandoned.
